Well… It would seem that the antics of Julia with Roland yesterday had quite the effect. She got a phone call from Goldberg Realty late this afternoon. As it turned out, they had been to the complex today and found that they once again had a lot of work to do.
They also mentioned that Roland would no longer be property manager; them having decided to release him from their employ. They assured us that there was a temporary manager already in place in case of emergencies; them explaining that part of the reason for their call was to give us the contact information.
During the process of chatting with Julia, they also assured her that our lease agreement would be honored. But they also wanted to let us know they would need access to the apartment for a few days to take care of a few mandatory updates that should have been done but were overlooked. When Julia politely pressed for more information the woman, Theresa, from Goldberg Realty told Julia that Fire Marshals and Building Inspectors from the State of New Jersey, Sussex County, and the town of Newton had all descended on the place this morning; not at all happy with what they saw. Apparently, there was quite a bit of work done to apartments involving shoddy construction work and a lack of permits; the property manager having clearly dropped the ball.
Beyond that? “Theresa didn’t seem to want to say any more.”
The story we were told was true though. After getting off the phone with Goldberg’s henchwoman phone calls began coming in from other tenants at Newtonian Gardens to find out what we knew. Julia just played it cool the entire time; listening and acting as if she had only just heard from the office herself. She didn’t offer anyone any information and didn’t say a word about the confrontation with Roland yesterday, or anything. “I could certainly tell that she was pleased though.”
After she finished answering phone calls and I got off the phone with the last tenant that called me she said, “Let’s just order in. You and I have earned it, both of us having put in a full day.” I agreed so she got us a pizza delivered from Dominick’s.
After dinner we took a bottle of whine into the bathroom with us along with a couple of glasses and enjoyed a nice candlelight bath together. We even had a bit of soft classical music in the background to set the mood. When we got out of the tub and dried, I carried her into the bedroom, simply because I could and she loves it, and after laying her face down on the bed I gave her a full body massage; arms, legs and all. When I told her to turn over I got no response. “Julia was out cold.”
So… After gently turning her over to insure she’d be comfortable (she doesn’t like sleeping on her stomach) I pulled back the covers on my side of the bed and tucked her in before sitting down to write this. “It really has been an awesome day!”
