“Someone slept like a rock last night. Are you ready to join the rest of planet earth in real-time?”
I waited until 7:30 AM before I asked Julia the above question. She stirred slightly and let out a long low moaned saying something about just wanting to sleep a little longer.
Then, she sat up suddenly saying, “Oh shit! What time is it?”
Then more calmly she said, “I’ve slept right through the alarm. I am so screwed.”
The only thing was, the way she said it kind of tipped me off that she knew damn well she didn’t really have any place she needed to be right away. Two seconds later she pretty much confirmed that, bursting into loud raucous laughter and said, “Not buying today, ha Babe?”
She then said warmly, “Is that coffee on the nightstand for me? How did you get to Dunkin and back so quickly?”
“I can’t reveal all my secrets,” I said playfully. “But… You can rest assured; I didn’t walk there and back with the air quality being what it is.”
Julia then thanked me for the coffee and headed into the shower with it in hand saying, “I’m working from home and don’t need to start until 10:00 AM. This was such a nice surprise. Thanks!”
“I’ll let my helpers know you appreciated it,” I called after her. “Breakfast awaits in the kitchen when you’re done in there, too.”
When Julia got done in the shower, we ate, me having already showered long before she even woke up. The feeling of joy at being surprised she radiated all day was priceless. “It certainly made the workday fly by and for an Awesome night, too!”
