“Hey you it’s time to roll out of… Oh no. Not today. That bitch can… Just stay here for a few minutes, ok? Whatever you might here… Just wait for me, ok?”
We were getting ready to head down to the building in town for my next meeting with Shannon, Julia insisting she drive at least for now. And… It’s kind of hard to say no when a Dunkin coffee run is part of the mix.
This morning though… We had an unwelcome visitor who apparently had come to beg for Julia’s forgiveness, having the balls in the process to tell Julia, “You owe me at least one more chance!” Julia wasn’t having it though and advised her to get the hell off our property before more charges were added to the ones she was already facing.
It was kind of hard not to hear the conversation. And… While wishing I could unhear it… Yeah… I was impressed with how well Julia handled herself. She mirrored the volume of verbiage coming at her. But her tone was that of one in command of the situation and themselves.
The little witch that pulled into our driveway two minutes before left crying about her career being over. When Julia came back in the house to let me know she was ready to go, she gave me a long passionate kiss before breathing in my ear as she held me close, “Damn did that feel good.”
I wasn’t about to ask her if she meant kissing me or telling off someone she’d once considered a friend. That was one fire I really wasn’t interested in dumping gasoline on. So… I just let it go.
After I was done meeting with Shannon, Julia insisted on driving me back home again. “It isn’t that I don’t think you can make the trip,” she said gently as we left the parking lot. “I know that under normal circumstances you are more than capable. Right now, though, you look like hell, and it scares me a bit. And… While I know you’ve got no problem taking care of yourself if need be… Why make you push the envelope when I have the time. And… For the record Mr. Schnabel… I love spending time with you.”
She reached over and gave my hand a squeeze as she drove and let out a low sly laugh before she spoke again. “I don’t have to be back in the office until 1:30 PM. What do you want for lunch? Do you feel like eating out or would you prefer more exotic fine dining at home?”
“I don’t really know right now,” I said quietly. “You call it,” I finished softly with a hint of playfulness in my tone.
I was tired and I could sense that Julia knew it. So, when I felt the RAM turn into the driveway of our house again, I really wasn’t surprised. As she turned off the truck she leaned over and kissed me passionately before saying, “You’re going to love what’s on tap for you.”
Julia wasn’t kidding. “Lunch was definitely and awesome experience!”
