“Did I ever tell you how much I love your work when it leads to a vacation with friends? Seriously, Babe, I’m totally down with driving you out to Pennsylvania to do this job and the fun that’s going to come with it!”
I woke to the smell of coffee and could tell that Julia was sitting on the love seat. “By the way… Welcome back to reality sunshine,” Julia said warmly. “The world says hello and so does your wife!”
“Julia? What are you talking about?” I asked as I got out of bed and moved towards the kitchen.
Julia laughed saying, “The repair job you’re going to do out in PA for Marilyn this afternoon. I’m driving. We’re coming home on Saturday.”
I must have looked my confusion because Julia suddenly jumped up and grabbed me before I could head out the bedroom doorway saying, “Come over here you and sit with me. I have your coffee on the end table waiting for you.”
“So… How is it I’m working out in PA?” I asked. Julia laughed and said, “Marilyn called me when she didn’t get an answer on your phone. Her machine she uses for medical coding is really acting up and the fan keeps kicking on high when she’s using it.”
“Ok?” I said. “But what about your practice? Don’t you need to…” Julia cut me off with a light kiss as she pushed a coffee cup into my hands and said, “Marilyn expressed the desire to see us and offered the downstairs apartment for our use while we are there. So… I agreed. And got a colleague of mine to cover for me this afternoon and tomorrow. It’s all good. No worries, Babe,” Julia finished.
She then continued, “If you need anything washed, I can help with that. Since we’re only going to be gone a few days, packing will go fast. We can swing by the apartment and grab your laptop from there if you like. I know you’ve been working on a project so…”
Julia broke off as I nodded and smiled at her. She then kissed me deeply after I drained my cup and said, “I should probably have awakened you but… Well… You seemed to be sleeping so peacefully and it seemed kind of cruel to wake you up from that state. Forgive me?” Julia finished softly.
“No forgiveness required. I appreciate it,” I said taking her hands in mine. “This should be fun,” I added smiling at her.
And… Yeah… We did have fun, heading out there at around noontime, Julia putting the RAM through its paces. How she doesn’t get speeding tickets I’ll never know.
Once we got there, I took care of Marilyn’s computer, cleaning out the inside of the tower and straightening out some of the Dell software that was causing issues. It only took me about an hour and a half to get the machine running right again and tested thoroughly to make sure the heating issue causing the constant high fan was resolved. “It was.”
After joining Marilyn for dinner out, Julia and I retired to the basement apartment in Marilyn’s residence.
It’s a small studio apartment but comfortable. After reading a book together for a while and unwinding on the couch in each other’s arms, we decided to call it a night. Julia really loved the bed, “Amongst other things.”
