The sound of the rain falling was peaceful. The feel of Julia loving me? “Priceless!” I don’t think either of us wanted to get out of bed but… We got our act together, including picking up our Newtonian Gardens apartment, before heading out to meet Ellen for breakfast.
While I am glad that Goldberg Realty totally renovated the place before money exchanged hands and paperwork was signed, “Sometimes I can’t help but wonder if the building will expire before our 30-year lease does.” But… At the time doing the deal we did with Michael Goldberg seemed like an excellent idea. And… Yeah… As Julia pointed out to me the last time I voiced my concern to her, “The way the lease is written it’s not likely to be a problem.”
She then said, “Everything is in our favor so… Relax and enjoy. And… Um… If you find your having trouble relaxing,” she said with a giggle, “It will always be my joy to help you relax.” She then kissed me deeply while seductively grinding herself up against me. I wonder what she was thinking at that moment.
“Moving right along though…” after one final check to make sure we had everything together, off to the Hampton Diner we went to meet Ellen, here in Newton NJ. Chris, our waiter, took excellent care of us and I really was pleased to see him. A lot of places have had a drastic change in staff due to COVID. But I guess you might say, “Today was our lucky day,” as the man really does pay attention to detail.
From the diner, Julia headed to the house to handle her virtual appointments scheduled for the day, the first set to kick off at 9:00 AM. Apparently, she only had two this morning. But she also wanted to run through some other material and stuff that had begun piling up in her in basket on her desk. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that girl’s up to something and I wouldn’t be surprised if it had to do with changing the direction of her business. Yeah… She’s a therapist and has her own practice. But… At the end of the day, “It’s still a business.”
Me? “Julia left me with Ellen!”
That’s not a bad thing though. Ellen’s doing much better these days and is rather pleasant to be around, which given her past state of being, is a beautiful thing. “She’s definitely emotionally and physically transformed for the better.”
This morning’s excursion is more of a social thing than anything else; me sometimes paying Ellen to read paperwork, fill out forms, etc. And… Yeah… When there’s a shopping that needs to be done that involves way too much to carry home on foot, “Sometimes I pay her for help with that kind of thing, too.” Even if it’s just in the form of a tank of gas for her car, “It’s only right.”
True, I could get the wife to shop with me. But… Spreading myself around is actually good for the soul and it does take a certain amount of pressure off Julia, which enables her to feel more like my wife rather than the caretaker of a blind person. And… She likes Ellen and Ellen likes her. So… Um… Uh… Yeah… I think it’s safe to say that’s a Win-Win situation.
Not that I didn’t have a few things of my own to pick up. Thanks to Ellen and her card reading abilities, “Dad’s birthday card is in the mail.”
I did pick up more coffee for the house, and filters for the coffee maker, too. But… Other than that, we just shopped and chatted.
When Ellen drove me back to the house, it was around 12:03 PM. Julia met us out in the driveway and suggested that Ellen stay for lunch. But… Ellen apparently had something else lined up with her daughter. So… We bid her farewell and entered our house as Ellen pulled out of the driveway.
Julia turned to me in the living room and said, “Why don’t we order something from A&G Pizza and then maybe we could start listening to one of your new Clive Cussler books on Audible. I think the first one in the series is called Pacific Vortex and you haven’t read that one yet, right?”
She then laughed at the look on my face and hugged me saying, “It will be a nice way to spend a free afternoon and evening. And… Yes,” she said, “I did a little research on the book series and figured that if my man likes the books they must be worth the time.”
I nodded and she kissed me again before getting on the phone and placing our order. So… Yeah… After we ate, we went into my study and started reading. And… Then we stopped for dinner and read some more. And then we read some more.
Finally, Julia suggested that we finish the book tomorrow afternoon and headed off to get ready for bed. It really was another awesome Cussler creation that neither one of us wanted to stop listening to. But unabridged Cussler Audio books narrated by Scott Brick aren’t usually finished in one day. However, in comparison to the abridged versions narrated by others, “Anything of Clive’s that is in an Unabridged audio format totally rocks.”
