I Am Leading a Winner’s Life.

“I am so very sorry. I’ve been terribly selfish, and it hasn’t been fair to you at all. You deserve better than that.”

I opened my eyes to find my wife’s nose inches from my own and my sluggish brain wasn’t quite up to speed just yet. “Julia,” I asked. “I’m feeling pretty dumb at the moment so… Uh… Help?”

Julia kissed me lightly and said, “Get out of bed and do some pushups. I’ll explain after. I promise.”

“What?” I asked sluggishly. Then it finally clicked in my head, and I said, “Oh.”

With that I got out of bed and headed into the kitchen for a glass of water. While I was taking a few sips Julia came in and turned on the coffee pot. Then, I headed into our living room and did a set of 20 pushups before picking up my free weights and working out with them until the coffee was done perking.

When I walked back out into the kitchen, Julia was no place to be found. So… I poured myself a coffee noting that the pot was already down a cup. “Julia?” I called softly.

I heard her soft voice coming from the direction of the bedroom doorway as she said, “I’m here, Babe.”

So, with coffee in hand I walked back into the bedroom and located Julia sitting on the love seat with her own coffee. “So, how is the most unselfish woman I know so selfish this morning?” I asked. “Did you decide to go for the 25-year-old athlete and draw up the divorce papers you need me to sign?” I then added teasingly.

Julia giggled and said, “No. It’s nothing like that. But… After the dream I had this morning, I realized… Well…”

She took a few sips of coffee before continuing. “Do you remember what your morning routine was even after we got married and started living together?”

I nodded and said, “Yeah… But…” Julia then placed a hand on my leg and leaned over to kiss me lightly before saying, “Because of me, you stopped doing it.”

“Julia,” I said gently. “That’s not on you. And… I’m still waking up at 5 AM. I’m just doing things a little differently.”

Julia sighed and said, “But it’s wearing on you. There’s a flow around you that’s missing since you’ve stopped. A flow that was good for all of us and most importantly you. I’ve disrupted that flow big time. I’m…”

I cut her off with a kiss saying, “Don’t apologize.” I then ran a finger across her chest, tracing the outline of her breast and asked, “So, your inner guidance is saying I need to go back to my morning routine?”

Julia said slightly breathlessly, “Yes. But… Uh… I do have one request. Please teach me the program you used to get started?”

I nodded saying, “That I will do. Let’s get started then. Shall we?”
