Julia was laying in her customary position when I woke this morning, which is straddling me with her arms and legs. She chuckled softly when I opened my eyes just before kissing me deeply. I became aware of the rain falling outside as Julia came up for air softly saying, “You look good. You look really good.”

This is nice. I’m glad you suggested it. And… Um… If you’ll have me, Babe, that trail leads to a secluded area over there where a big rock is that’s just perfect for a little fun in the wilderness.

“I’m liking this. My husband waking me up like… This hasn’t happened in a while and… Oh… That feels… Uh… Awesome. Yess,” Julia breathed.

Oh yeah? You want me to grind down on you slower and harder? I love the smile on your face right now. The feel of your strong hands on my hips… The power within your entire body… This is awesome. Yes! Awesome Yes!

“You’ve supported me from the start, whenever I’ve run into trouble emotionally and otherwise. You’ve always known when the storms were coming about 85 percent of the time, and when you didn’t, you did well in helping me to overcome things and heal anyway. Now you’re the one in trouble and you’re fighting like hell to handle things on your own as much as possible? Does that make sense, Brian?”

“You’d have made an excellent dad, you know? I know why you didn’t have kids and I don’t regret not having any either but… You’d have done well from what I heard from one or two of your Ex’s.”

“Some people are really sick. They call themselves Woke, latch on to a minority cause, acting as though they are totally for equality, and then actively discriminate against every other minority that’s not a part of said cause in the process. How stupid can you be? I mean… I know you deal with this crap all the time but…”

“Babe? Why are you sitting out here? Are you ok?”

Julia lay sleeping soundly, her body comfortably intertwined with my own. Yeah… It was early, being about 4:45 AM. But the moment was priceless.

“I haven’t seen a smile like that one first thing in the morning for weeks. I’m glad. I’m happy to see that.”

“Wow! Is it my eyes playing tricks on me, Babe? Or… Uh… Did you just put up a post roasting the CEO of a billion-dollar corporation about their software’s lack of accessibility? Now there’s the man I know and love!”

“It’s quite the thing sometimes to be at center, right at the gate between consciousness and unconsciousness even though your adrenals are fully engaged as certain imagery begins coming up clear as a bell. I just wish I knew where all this was coming from. Panic attacks… Whatever you call them… I just want to find the trigger, but I can’t.”

“Someone slept like a rock last night. Are you ready to join the rest of planet earth in real-time?”

“Spread your fucking legs wider. Yeah… That’s good. Just like that. Oh, fuck yeah!”

“Did I ever tell you how much I love your work when it leads to a vacation with friends? Seriously, Babe, I’m totally down with driving you out to Pennsylvania to do this job and the fun that’s going to come with it!”

I woke at around 4:30 AM to find myself in an empty bed. I lay there for a long while before deciding to get up and look for my wife. Of course, I made a pit stop at the bathroom on the way, which is probably a good thing.
